Mumbai Indians Welcome Women’s Premier League Team to its Growing #OneFamily

The Mumbai Indians announce the addition of a very special franchise—a women's cricket team in the inaugural Women's Premier League (WPL), which is set to begin play in March 2023—as part of their ongoing commitment to promoting sports for women and growing the MI #OneFamily. As a result, MI's women's squad joins the Mumbai Indians, MI Cape Town, and MI Emirates as the company's fourth franchise.

The Mumbai Indians won the bid to represent Mumbai. With the addition of their own women's team, the Paltan will be able to support and celebrate in the same manner as they have done for the past 15 years, helping the Mumbai Indians become the most prosperous franchise in Indian sports. Women's cricket in India and around the world, as well as women athletes in general, stand to benefit greatly from the newly launched WPL.

Speaking at the event, Nita Ambani stated, "I welcome our women's cricket team to the MI #OneFamily with much excitement and pride! We are honoured to be a part of what will go down in Indian cricket history. Whether it was the World Cup, Asian Cup, or most recently the Commonwealth Games, India's female cricket players have always brought honour to their country in the international sporting arena! The ability, strength, and potential of our ladies will once again be highlighted by this new Women's League on a global scale. Our Women's MI team will undoubtedly raise the bar for entertaining and brave cricket played by the Mumbai Indians. The BCCI has my sincere congratulations on this historic announcement! As a result, more and more young women will be able to participate in professional sports. At Reliance, we are still dedicated to seeing women excel in sports in general and cricket in particular.

The fourth franchise to join the Mumbai Indians family, our women's cricket team is welcomed with open arms, Akash Ambani stated. I'm happy that India is leading this transition at a historic period like the Women's Premier League's debut. I'm excited for the forthcoming season and am sure that the WPL will make a significant difference in the advancement of women in sports. We anticipate that our women's squad will succeed and serve as an inspiration to upcoming generations of female players as we bring the MI experience and best practises to the women's game.

Over the years, Reliance Foundation Sports has concentrated on supporting female athletes, placing a stronger emphasis on the creation of grassroots opportunities and offering elite talent routes for female and girl athletes in cricket, football, and athletics. This includes grants for female athletes participating in Olympic sports programmes, giving them access to top-notch coaching, training, and assistance in both sports and science.

The Foundation has also been active at the local level, encouraging kids to participate in sports and providing equal opportunity to aspiring footballers and cricketers, both boys and girls. In the present MI Junior inter-school cricket event for boys and girls, there are more than 200 schools from Maharashtra taking part. In addition, the recently finished Reliance Foundation Youth Sports (RFYS) school and college football league featured 26,000 young football players in boys' and girls' divisions throughout 12 states.
